(LEBANON) Daughters Mariam (14) and Batoul (9) by a photo of their father Ali Abou Eid, who was killed by a cluster submunition on the 19th of August 2006. Ironically, he was a former deminer for the organization BACTEC.(Photo: John Rodsted/Norwegian People's Aid)
Ali and a friend were walking along an alley in an orchard when he stepped on a hidden cluster submunition on the ground. He was killed instantly. Another grief stricken wife and four children without a father. The unexploded submunitions left from attacks with cluster munitions are a slow and insidious toll that is wearing away at average people every day. Ali’s friend, who was several meters away when the explosion happened, escaped without serious injuries, but received many shrapnel wounds to his legs.
